Abstract

The paper as a whole (parts 1 and 2) is a discussion about the relevance of the category of number in Basque in all sectors of the grammar (noun, pronouns, verbs, etc.), its development over time and its possible origin. Part 1 focuses on the synchronic status of the number category in the standard language and the possible development in historical periods
