Archive for Basque and Typologically-related Languages Research

PRESENTATION OF ARTXIKER

The Artxiker Archive is a digital library which receives and diffuses the scholarly production of international research in the field of the Basque language and typologically-related languages. This resource is the result of the cooperation between the Basque Text and Language Study Center IKER - UMR 5478 of CNRS (www.iker.cnrs.fr) and the Center for the Direct Scientific Diffusion - UAR 3668 of CNRS (www.ccsd.cnrs.fr).
The Artxiker Archive profits from the support of the main university research centers which pursue research on Basque language and most prominently:
  • Université Bordeaux Montaigne
  • Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour
  • Universidad del País Vasco - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea
  • Universidad Pública de Navarra – Nafarroako Unibertsitate Publikoa
  • Universidad de Deusto – Deustuko Unibertsitatea

DEFINITION OF THE GOALS, CONDITIONS OF MAINTENANCE AND OF THE COHERENCE OF ARTXIKER ARCHIVE

To give the scientific community direct, free access to the work of researchers concerning the Basque language and typologically-related languages.
To ensure an easy access to their contents.
To allow via the premise of self-archiving, a fast and optimal diffusion of the documents deposited.
To support maximum feedback on behalf of the community of interested researchers.
To establish and maintain the most complete scientific network in the field of the Basque language and typologically-related languages.

DEFINITION OF THE STATUTE OF THE DIGITALLY SUBMITTED DOCUMENTS, CONDITIONS FOR SETTLING LEGAL QUESTIONS

These are documents that have not yet been published (working-papers and versions of papers prior to their review by an editorial board), or have been published (after scientific peer-evaluation).
The intellectual property of the documents deposited belongs their(s) author(s). The authors guarantee that the Artxiker Archive will not incur any legal action from third parties (editors, authors, etc.), whose copyrights or royalties may have been infringed upon in any manner, whether deliberate or not.
The users are subject to the rules which apply to print publications: the respect of original work, ways of quoting, prohibition of intellectual plagiarism, etc. The submission of a document to this service is akin to the presentation of scientific results at a conference. It goes without saying that data which must remain confidential for one reason or another should in no case to be submitted in Artxiker. Editors' copyright laws must be respected, and these prohibit for example the submission of a file that was produced by a commercial editor. It is thus necessary to deposit, either of the source files (rtf, preferably), or the files (pdf or ps) produced by either the author or their laboratory.
Any commercial use of the texts published on Artxiker is prohibited. Thus, the marketing of a course handbook or even of reproduction of lecture notes from Artxiker is not authorized without explicit written consent of the text's author.

CONDITIONS FOR DEPOSIT, ACCESS, WITHDRAWAL, AND QUOTATION OF WORKS CONTAINED IN THE ARTXIKER ARCHIVE

The depositor must register prior to their first submission to the archive in order to receive by way of email a password and username.
The document must be indexed according to a pre-determined form.
Any document deposited receives a unique Internet identifier (an OAI identifier) and the date of submission can be used to prove that the work was previously created in the event that it is in pre-publication stage. This procedure ensures a permanent record of the received documents and resolves the problem of detecting plagiarism.
One of the members of the board of trustees will serve as moderator of the documents submitted and order to consistently check the compatibility of the documents with the field of the Artxiker Archive, as well as the relevance of the corresponding meta-data. This is not an issue of scientific validity or evaluation. The depositor is informed by e-mail of the acceptance status of the document they submit.
Document submissions can be made in any language, although there is a preference for Basque, English, Spanish and French.
Key words as well as a short summary are to be provided by the depositor in English, in order to make the document compatible with international standards.
For the complete texts, the depositor must give priority to breaking, new research. Older documents will rather be the object of a bibliographic record which will contain the references of the publication and its summary, and possibly and link for the complete text.
The author authorizes Artxiker, although not on an exclusive basis, the right to freely diffuse their work.
Artxiker Archive users have the right to use its documents for teaching and research purposes, which also includes any non-profit activities: illustration for a course or a doctoral thesis, use within a seminar's work, diffusion on a research center's or a professor's Internet site (non-paying), for either partial quotation or the integral reproduction of work.
The user agrees to indicate on their work the complete reference information in the exact way that it is presented at the beginning of the meta-dataset granting access to the document, without neglecting to mention Artxiker Archive's contact information (www.artxiker.ccsd.cnrs.fr).
