Helduen euskalduntzea eta etorkinak Ipar Euskal Herrian AEK-ko ikaslegoaren azterketa

Abstract : This piece of research studies the characteristics of adults in the Northern [French-administered] Basque Country who are learning Basque, by distinguishing between the local population (people born in the Basque Country) and the immigrants. The results are based on the enrolment cards of AEK students [AEK=organisation that runs Basque courses for adults] during the 1995-1996, 2002-2003 and 2008-2009 academic years. Sociolinguistic information on these immigrants is provided and then compared with that of the local population. Furthermore, eight motivation options and ten teaching objective options are examined. On the whole, the immigrants would appear to want to achieve basic communication, while the local inhabitants are after greater communicative competence. Generally, adult AEK students are more or less a reflection of the inhabitants of the Northern Basque Country, both in sociolinguistic characteristics and in their motivations with respect to Basque.
