Les langues basque et gasconne à Bayonne en ce début de XXIe siècle

Abstract : This communication proposes an inventory of fixtures of the situation of the Basque and Gascon languages at this beginning of XXIst century in Bayonne (France) and more largely in the Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz agglomeration. They are two minority languages vis-a-vis French omnipresent in almost all the fields of the public life. After a presentation of the sociolinguistic investigations, of the presence of the two languages in the city and of the institutional and associative actors working in their favour, the author tries to show that the Basque language teaching which develops slowly cannot suffice to reverse the situation, to take out the language from the "ghettoes" where it is used. As for the Gascon, all is to be made.
